Recently, one of my mentor told me about a concept called "Ikigai" - a japanese term that means "reason for being". In the article named Ikigai - jibun no kanosei, kaikasaseru katei ("Ikigai: the process of allowing the self's possibilities to blossom") Kobayashi Tsukasa says that "people can feel real ikigai only when, on the basis of personal maturity, the satisfaction of various desires, love and happiness, encounters with others, and a sense of the value of life, they proceed toward self-realization.
I started looking for answers to the 4 questions - What I am GOOD at? What do I LOVE to do? What does World NEED ? What can I be PAID for ? So here is my journey toward discovering my "Ikigai"
What I am Good at ?
What does World NEED ?
After professional corporate career of 2 decades, I started interacting closely with young entrepreneurs and realized there was so much to learn from them and also so much value-add I could provide in their journey to success. It was inspiring to meet young people and watch the passion in their eyes, eagerness to take fast decisions, willingness to adapt and learn, usage of social media to be always connected, etc. I started mentoring around 10 entrepreneurs that I met in NASSCOM / TIE events and at Innov8 co-working space for about 2 years. So, now I knew What World needs?.
What do I Love to Do ?
Meanwhile, I had a good fortune of being exposed to world of Coaching as I was assigned an Executive Coach for 6 months in my company - it was a turning point in my life as I discovered a lot about myself, my capabilities, my fears, my passion all came in front of me.
I was more confident and self assured. I decided to learn more about coaching and did a certification course in coaching. Then I started practicing with some young entrepreneurs and realized that the it was adding great value to them and was giving me mental fulfillment of seeing someone walking with more clarity and confidence to face the world. I was becoming clear to me that I had found answer to a long lasting question - what do I love to do?
What can I be PAID for ?
As I progressed in my life and career, my right brain started connecting the dots...Experienced Software professional, Software Products, Scaling business, Young Entrepreneur and Executive Coaching....out came from it a dream and passion that I had not experienced so far - dream to "walk with the business owners of product companies in their journey towards Happiness and Success" ... this is what I am here to offer now as a executive business coaching services. I discovered my Ikigai !!!.
What about Your Ikigai, my friend ?
Giving respect to all around me, my peers, my seniors, my juniors, my stakeholder, my vendors, my customers, my organization and yes having respect for self. To add to it, I feel a deep respect toward nature and time.
I believe in old saying "Honesty is the best policy". Being honest and truthful to other and to self keeps me sleep peacefully at night.
I believe that integrity is the most important charactertics in any profession and is an unarticulated expectation from all around us. World has seen many big empires fall due to compromise on confidentiality of information, conflict of interest, information security, discrimination & harassment on the basis of origin, nationality, religion, race, gender, age or sexual orientation.
I believe there is so much for me to learn and I know only a small fraction of knowledge. I like to learn by talking to people, reading books, thru strong observation of events unfolding in front, and by connecting dots. I believe there is so much to learn from children, nature and books.
These are my beliefs, how about you, my friend ?
A question that everyone is searching answer for. I don't know who am I but think I am "peaceful and balanced". Peace means Peace of mind, Peaceful environment, Peaceful people, Peace outside and inside... Balance means Balance of conflicting thoughts, Balance between right and wrong, Balance between Knowledge and Character, Balance between Power and Ethics... This is me...I think..!!!
So, Who are You, my friend ?
